1) India’s GST collections in July second highest ever
- India’s Goods and Services Tax collection in July are the second highest revenue recorded since the introduction of the GST in 2017.
- A total of Rs 148,995 crore was collected as GST in the month of July, which is 28 per cent higher in comparison to July 2021.
- Out of the total amount, IGST was Rs 79,518 crore (including Rs 41,420 crore collected on import of goods), SGST was Rs 32,807 crore, CGST was Rs 25,751 crore and cess was Rs 10,920 crore (including Rs 995 crore collected on import of goods).
- The highest-ever GST collection was reported in April 2022 when a GST revenue of Rs 1.68 lakh crore was recorded.

2) West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to carve out seven new districts
- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on August 1, 2022 that the state government has decided to carve out seven new districts in the state.
- This will entail redrawing the boundaries of the existing 23 districts for better administration and development, taking the total number of districts to 30.
- The seven new districts will include-Jangipur, Sunderban, Bishnupur, Ichhamati, Ranaghat, Basirhat and Behrampur.

3) Liz Truss leads UK PM race, outpaces Rishi Sunak
- UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has gained 90 percent lead over Rishi Sunak in the UK PM race to replace Boris Johnson.
- As per a recent survey, the chances of Liz Truss becoming the next leader of the the Conservative Party after Johnson are 90.91 per cent, while Rishi Sunak’s chance has shrunk by 9.09 per cent.
- Liz Truss is also leading in survey of Tory members after she vowed to impose immediate tax cuts amid a slump in Britain’s living standards. Sunak’s support on the other hand has shrunk, as many of his party members feel that he stabbed Boris Johnson in the back.

4) Indian lawn bowls team confirm India’s first medal in sport at CWG 2022
- The Indian women’s Lawn Bowls players created history on August 1, 2022 after they confirmed India’s first-ever medal in the sport at Commonwealth Games 2022.
- The team has reached the final of the Women’s Fours event by defeating New Zealand by a margin of 16-13 in the semi-final.
- India’s win has created a huge upset as New Zealand has one of the five most successful Lawn Bowls team and has 40 medals in the sport.
- The Indian team comprises Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani started.

5) Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut in ED custody till August 4
- Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut has been sent into custody of the Enforcement Directorate till August 4 in connection with the Patra Chawl case.
- The ED had produced Sanjay Raut earlier today before a special sessions court after his arrest early this morning.
- He has been arrest in relation to a money laundering case linked to irregularities involving the redevelopment of a chawl in Mumbai.

- இன்று அதிகாலை கைது செய்யப்பட்ட சஞ்சய் ராவத்தை சிறப்பு அமர்வு நீதிமன்றத்தில் ED ஆஜர்படுத்தியது.
- மும்பையில் ஒரு சால்லை மறுவடிவமைப்பு செய்ததில் முறைகேடுகளுடன் தொடர்புடைய பணமோசடி வழக்கு தொடர்பாக அவர் கைது செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளார்.
6) Zimbabwe launched gold coins as legal tender to tackle inflation
- Zimbabwe has launched gold coins to be sold to the public in a bid to tame runaway inflation that has further eroded the country’s unstable currency.
- The unprecedented move was announced by the country’s central bank, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, to boost confidence in the local currency.
- The coin is called ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’ which refers to Victoria Falls in the local Tonga language.
- The coins will have liquid asset status so that they could be easily converted to cash and locally and internationally tradable. The cost of one coin was $1,824 at the time of launch.

7) Sanjay Arora to join as the new Delhi Police commissioner
- Sanjay Arora, a Tamil Nadu-cadre IPS officer who oversaw the paramilitary ITBP, will assume control of the Delhi Police as Delhi Police commissioner. He is scheduled to retire in 2025.
- Sanjay Arora was named commissioner of the Delhi Police, replacing the previous Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, an IPS officer from the Gujarat Cadre who retired after nearly 38 years of service.
- Rakesh Asthana, the departing commissioner of the Delhi Police, said that despite his retirement, he still has a strong desire to serve the public and the force.
- The IPS officer from the Gujarat cadre class of 1984 has made some significant reforms to the Delhi Police over the past year, including combining Police Control Room units with police stations and removing law and order from the investigative section.

8) 3rd India-Vietnam Bilateral Army Exercise “Ex VINBAX 2022” begins in Haryana
- The 3rd edition of Vietnam-India Bilateral Army Exercise “Ex VINBAX 2022” is conducted at Chandimandir, Haryana from August 1 to 20, 2022.
- The theme of Ex VINBAX 2022 is the “Employment and deployment of an Engineer Company and a Medical Team as part of United Nations Contingent for Peace Keeping Operations”. The exercise will further strengthen the bilateral relations between India and Vietnam.
- The conduct of Ex VINBAX – 2022 as a field training exercise with enhanced scope from previous editions of bilateral exercise will strengthen mutual confidence, and inter-operability and enable sharing of best practices between the Indian Army and Vietnam People’s Army.

9) Kargil War: Point 5140 at Dras in Kargil sector named as Gun Hill
- Indian Armed Forces and pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice of the Gunners in “Operation Vijay”, Point 5140 at Dras in the Kargil sector has been christened as Gun Hill.
- Regiment of Artillery of the Indian Army, with lethal and accurate firepower, was able to have a telling effect on the enemy troops and their defences including Point 5140, which was the key factor in the early completion of operations.

10) 4th India-Oman Joint Military Exercise ‘AL NAJAH-IV’ begins
- The 4th Edition of India-Oman Joint Military Exercise ‘AL NAJAH-IV’ begins in Rajasthan at the Foreign Training Node of Mahajan Field Firing Ranges.
- The exercise takes place between contingents of the Indian Army and the Royal Army of Oman from August 01 to 13, 2022. The 3rd edition of Ex AL NAJAH IV was held at Muscat from 12 to 25 March 2019.
- The Indian Army will be represented by troops from the 18 Mechanised Infantry Battalion at the AL NAJAH-IV.
- The Royal Army of Oman contingent will be represented by the Sultan of Oman Parachute Regiment.

- இந்தியா-ஓமன் கூட்டு ராணுவப் பயிற்சியின் 4வது பதிப்பு ‘AL NAJAH-IV’ ராஜஸ்தானில் மஹாஜன் ஃபீல்ட் ஃபைரிங் ரேஞ்ச்களின் வெளிநாட்டுப் பயிற்சி முனையில் தொடங்குகிறது.
- இந்திய ராணுவம் மற்றும் ஓமன் ராயல் ஆர்மிக்கு இடையே ஆகஸ்ட் 01 முதல் 13, 2022 வரை இந்தப் பயிற்சி நடைபெறுகிறது. முன்னாள் அல் நஜா IV இன் 3வது பதிப்பு 2019 மார்ச் 12 முதல் 25 வரை மஸ்கட்டில் நடைபெற்றது.
