The Railway Recruitment Boards have published the detailed Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 06/2026 for Non-Technical Popular Categories (Graduate). The online application window is open now on rrbapply.gov.in and closes at 23:59 on 6 November 2026. The detailed CEN settles everything the indicative notice of 26 September left open — and it changes three things that were widely reported from that notice.
Three things the detailed CEN changed
- The vacancy count went up, not down. The indicative notice said 3,477. The detailed CEN notifies 3,548 posts — 71 more.
- Only four posts are notified, not six. Station Master and Traffic Assistant are not in this CEN at all. They were in CEN 06/2025. Because those are the two posts that carry the Computer Based Aptitude Test, there is no CBAT in this recruitment.
- The Typing Skill Test has been dispensed with. Para 13.0(c) removes the CBTST for Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist for this CEN. Candidates are still expected to have basic computer and typing proficiency, which is assessed after joining.
The practical effect: selection is now just CBT 1 → CBT 2 → Document Verification and Medical. No aptitude test, no typing test.

Goods Train Manager alone is 78% of the notification. It is also the only post with the strict A-2 medical standard, which matters for anyone who has had Lasik — see the medical section below.

Age limit and date of birth

Age is reckoned as on 01.01.2027 and the band for every post is 18 to 33 years. In date-of-birth terms:

The date of birth in your application must match your SSC / SSLC / 10th class certificate exactly. The CEN says any difference leads to disqualification, and no later change will be considered.

Relaxations are not cumulative — if you qualify on more than one ground you get the largest single one. SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates who apply against UR vacancies get no relaxation at all.
Educational qualification

All four posts need the same thing: a degree from a recognised university or its equivalent. No typing certificate is required, because the typing test has been dispensed with for this CEN.
You must already hold the degree on the closing date, 6 November 2026. The CEN is explicit that candidates awaiting their final-year results are not eligible and should not apply.
Examination fee and refund

Payment is online only — net banking, debit or credit card, or UPI. The refund goes to the bank account seeded with your Aadhaar, which you validate during the application; if no Aadhaar-linked account is found you are routed to the NPCI portal to link one. No refund at all if you do not appear for CBT 1, or if your application is incomplete or rejected.
EBC is not OBC and not EWS. The ₹250 concession on the EBC ground needs annual family income below ₹50,000 and a valid income certificate, BPL card or Izzat MST held on the date you fill the application — a certificate issued after the closing date will not be accepted, and the application is liable to be rejected. An EBC certificate is also not the same as a State Government Extremely Backward Class certificate.
Selection process and exam pattern

Three stages, and that is all:

Negative marking is one-third of a mark for every wrong answer, in both CBTs. Minimum qualifying marks: UR and EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 25% — the same percentages apply to Ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates by their own community. Note this is not the flat 30% used in Group D.
Tie-break: if two candidates score the same, the older candidate ranks higher. If the dates of birth are also the same, alphabetical order of the given name decides.
What the CBTs ask. Mathematics covers number system, decimals, fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio and proportion, percentage, mensuration, time and work, time and distance, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, elementary algebra, geometry and trigonometry, and elementary statistics. General Intelligence and Reasoning covers analogies, number and alphabetical series, coding and decoding, mathematical operations, similarities and differences, relationships, analytical reasoning, syllogism, jumbling, Venn diagrams, puzzles, data sufficiency, statement and conclusion, statement and courses of action, decision making, maps and interpretation of graphs. General Awareness covers current events of national and international importance, games and sports, art and culture, Indian literature, monuments and places, general science and life science up to 10th CBSE, history of India and the freedom struggle, physical, social and economic geography of India and the world, Indian polity and governance, scientific and technological developments including space and nuclear programmes, UN and other world organisations, environmental issues, computer basics, common abbreviations, transport systems in India, the Indian economy, famous personalities, flagship government programmes, flora and fauna, and important government and public sector organisations.

If you have had Lasik surgery
Candidates who have undergone Lasik or any other refractive correction surgery are not eligible for the A-2 post — that is Goods Train Manager, the largest category in the notification. They are eligible for the B-2 and C-2 posts, subject to the conditions in the Railway Board letter reproduced at Annexure VII(A) of the CEN, and must file the self-declaration at Annexure VII. Choose your post preferences accordingly.
How to apply

- Go to rrbapply.gov.in, the single common portal for all RRBs. If you created an account for an RRB CEN in 2024, 2025 or 2026, use the same login — do not create a second one.
- At Create an Account, authenticate with Digi Locker or Aadhaar. The CEN warns that candidates who verify through an alternate photo ID face “significantly stricter and more detailed scrutiny at every stage”. Enter name, father’s name, mother’s name and date of birth exactly as in the 10th certificate.
- Choose one RRB and set your post preferences. The choice is final.
- Upload a live photo captured during the application and your signature to the specifications in Para 14.4 and 14.5.1. Blurred or non-standard uploads are rejected at any stage.
- Pay the fee online before 08.11.2026 and validate your Aadhaar-seeded bank account for the refund.
- Save the submitted application PDF and the fee receipt.
One application only
More than one application against this CEN — to different RRBs or the same one — means all of them are rejected, and the candidate is debarred from all future RRB and RRC examinations. This is the single most expensive mistake available in this recruitment.
The Aadhaar checklist

The indicative notice led with Aadhaar and the detailed CEN keeps it central — it now also drives your fee refund. Three things must be true before you fill the form:
- Your name and date of birth in Aadhaar match the 10th class certificate exactly.
- Your Aadhaar carries your latest photograph and latest biometrics — fingerprint and iris.
- A working bank account is seeded with your Aadhaar, or the fee refund cannot reach you. The CEN puts that responsibility entirely on the candidate.

CEN 07/2026 — the undergraduate notification
CEN 07/2026 — +2 நிலை அறிவிக்கை
The undergraduate cycle is a separate notification with 1,688 vacancies at Pay Level 2 and Level 3, applications opening 15.10.2026 and closing 13.11.2026, with age reckoned as on 01.01.2027. Those dates come from the indicative notice; its detailed CEN has not been published yet, so the post list, age bands, fee and exam pattern for the undergraduate level are not settled. We will update this page when it appears.
A graduate who also meets the undergraduate criteria can apply to both, since they are separate CENs with separate fees — but the one-application rule applies within each.
What to do this week

- Check Aadhaar against your 10th certificate today. A name or date-of-birth correction at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra takes days, and the form closes on 6 November.
- Decide your RRB before you open the form, not during it. The choice cannot be changed later, and RRB Chennai’s 141 posts are not the only option open to a Tamil Nadu candidate.
- If you have had Lasik, plan around the A-2 bar on Goods Train Manager before you set preferences.
- Start General Awareness now. It is 40 of 100 marks in CBT 1 and 50 of 120 in CBT 2 — the largest section in both, and the slowest to build.
- Work the previous-year papers early. NTPC repeats heavily across shifts and cycles, and the syllabus above is unchanged from the 2025 CEN.

Beware of touts, brokers and job racketeers

Recruitment to the Railways is entirely on the basis of the CBTs — nobody can arrange a post for a fee. The CEN also draws attention to the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act and Rules, 2024 as amended on 31.07.2026: impersonation or any unfair means means lifetime debarment from all RRB and RRC examinations, dismissal if already appointed, and legal prosecution. If anyone asks for money beyond the official fee paid on rrbapply.gov.in, it is a fraud.

Is there a typing test in RRB NTPC 2026?
No. Para 13.0(c) of CEN 06/2026 dispenses with the Computer Based Typing Skill Test for Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist in this CEN. You are still expected to have basic typing proficiency, which is assessed after joining and can affect confirmation or promotion.
Is Station Master included in CEN 06/2026?
No. The notification covers only Goods Train Manager, Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist and Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor. Station Master and Traffic Assistant were in CEN 06/2025 but are not notified this time — which is also why there is no CBAT.
How many vacancies are there for Tamil Nadu?
RRB Chennai is notified for 141 posts — 72 Goods Train Manager, 38 and 5 Senior Clerk cum Typist (Southern Railway and ICF), 20 Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist and 6 Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor. RRB Thiruvananthapuram has a further 25.
Can I apply to more than one RRB?
No. You may choose only one RRB, and the choice is final. Submitting more than one application against this CEN gets all of them rejected and debars you from all future RRB and RRC examinations.
What is the age limit?
18 to 33 years as on 01.01.2027 for every post, so you must be born on or before 01.01.2009 and not earlier than 02.01.1994 (UR and EWS), 02.01.1991 (OBC-NCL) or 02.01.1989 (SC and ST), before relaxation.
Will I get my examination fee back?
Only if you actually appear for CBT 1. ₹400 of the ₹500 general fee is refunded, and the whole ₹250 for the concessional categories, less bank charges, to the bank account seeded with your Aadhaar. Nothing is refunded if you skip the exam or your application is rejected.
I have had Lasik surgery. Can I apply?
Yes, but not for Goods Train Manager, which carries the A-2 medical standard and excludes refractive correction surgery. The B-2 and C-2 posts are open to you subject to the conditions at Annexure VII(A), with the self-declaration at Annexure VII.
When is the exam?
An indicative notice dated 12.10.2026 says CBT 1 is tentatively planned to start in the fourth week of December 2026. The exact dates come in a separate notice. City intimation slips normally appear about ten days before the exam and the e-call letter about four days before, from the individual RRB pages reached through rrb.indianrailways.gov.in.
