ALP is a medical A-1 post. Because Assistant Loco Pilot carries the strictest running-safety medical class, the PwBD relaxation rows above do not apply to it. Check the relaxation table in the CEN for the exact post you are applying to.

Physical Efficiency Test — Group D

உடல் தகுதித் தேர்வு — குரூப் டி

Test Male candidates Female candidates

The PET is qualifying only — no marks from it go into the merit list. Candidates are called at three times the community-wise vacancies of each RRB. Transgender candidates are tested against the standards for women. PwBD candidates, Course Completed Act Apprentices and Ex-servicemen are exempt from the PET.

Medical standards

Syllabus & exam pattern

பாடத்திட்டம் மற்றும் தேர்வு முறை

All railway posts

The stage-by-stage pattern for every live RRB recruitment, followed by the subject-wise topic list. Every CBT below has one third of a mark deducted for a wrong answer, and scores are normalised across shifts.

RRB NTPC — CBT 1 and CBT 2

என்.டி.பி.சி.

Stage Section Questions Marks
CBT 1
90 minutes
120 minutes with a scribe
General Awareness 40 40
Mathematics 30 30
General Intelligence & Reasoning 30 30
Total 100 100
CBT 2
90 minutes
120 minutes with a scribe
General Awareness 50 50
Mathematics 35 35
General Intelligence & Reasoning 35 35
Total 120 120

CBT 1 is a screening test — its marks do not enter the final merit list. Candidates are shortlisted for CBT 2 at twenty times the community-wise vacancies. Minimum qualifying marks: UR and EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%, with a 2% relaxation for PwBD candidates where there is a shortage against reserved vacancies. Senior Clerk cum Typist, Junior Account Assistant cum Typist, Accounts Clerk cum Typist and Junior Clerk cum Typist then take a qualifying Typing Skill Test — 30 words a minute in English or 25 in Hindi on a computer, without spell check or editing tools. Station Master and Traffic Assistant take the Computer Based Aptitude Test instead: a T-score of at least 42 in every test battery, no negative marking, no relaxation for any community, and a final merit of 70% CBT 2 plus 30% CBAT.

RRB Group D — single CBT

குரூப் டி (லெவல் 1)

Section Questions Marks
General Intelligence & Reasoning 30 30
Mathematics 25 25
General Science 25 25
General Awareness on Current Affairs 20 20
Total — 90 minutes, 120 with a scribe 100 100

One CBT decides the merit, then the PET, document verification and the medical. Minimum qualifying marks: UR and EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 30% — note that Group D sets ST at 30%, not the 25% used in NTPC and ALP. A relaxation of 2 marks applies to PwBD candidates where there is a shortage against reserved vacancies.

RRB ALP — CBT 1, CBT 2 and CBAT

உதவி லோகோ பைலட்

Stage Subjects Questions Marks Time
CBT 1 Mathematics, Mental Ability, General Science 75 75 60 min
CBT 2 — Part A Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering 100 100 90 min
CBT 2 — Part B Trade paper from the DGT syllabus for your ITI, apprenticeship or engineering trade 75 75 60 min
CBAT Aptitude test batteries, in English and Hindi only T-score 42 in each battery
The 2026 change worth knowing. CEN 01/2026 sets the final ALP merit at 50% CBT 2 Part A and 50% CBAT. Earlier cycles used 70:30, so the aptitude test now carries far more weight than it used to. There is no negative marking in the CBAT and no relaxation in the T-score of 42 for any community.

CBT 1 is screening only and candidates are shortlisted for CBT 2 at fifteen times the vacancies of that RRB. Part B is purely qualifying — 35% is needed by every candidate with no community relaxation, and its marks do not enter the merit list. Candidates who clear both parts are called for the CBAT at eight times the ALP vacancies. Minimum qualifying marks in CBT 1 and CBT 2 Part A: UR and EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%. General Awareness does not appear in the CEN 01/2026 CBT 1 syllabus.

RRB Technician — single CBT

டெக்னீஷியன்

Section Grade I Signal Grade III
General Awareness 10 10
General Intelligence & Reasoning 15 25
Basics of Computers and Applications 20
Mathematics 20 25
Basic Science and Engineering 35
General Science 40
Total — 90 minutes each 100 100

A single CBT, then document verification and the medical. Shortlisting for document verification is done RRB-wise and pay-level-wise on merit. PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe get 120 minutes.

RRB JE — CBT 1 and CBT 2

ஜூனியர் இன்ஜினியர்

Stage Section Questions Marks
CBT 1
90 minutes
Mathematics 30 30
General Intelligence & Reasoning 25 25
General Awareness 15 15
General Science 30 30
Total 100 100
CBT 2
120 minutes
General Awareness 15 15
Physics & Chemistry 15 15
Basics of Computers and Applications 10 10
Basics of Environment and Pollution Control 10 10
Technical Abilities — your engineering branch 100 100
Total 150 150

CBT 1 is screening only; CBT 2 decides the merit, and the Technical Abilities paper is worth two thirds of it. The pattern above follows the CEN 04/2026 short notice and the pattern used in the previous JE cycle — the detailed CEN 04/2026 confirms the exam groups and the qualification mapped to each of them.

ALP CBT 2 Part B — the trade paper

Part B draws its questions from the trade syllabus prescribed by the Directorate General of Training. You choose one trade, and it has to match your ITI trade, your Act Apprenticeship trade, or the trade mapped to your engineering discipline in the CEN.

The ITI trades notified for ALP are Fitter, Electrician, Instrument Mechanic, Millwright or Maintenance Mechanic, Mechanic (Radio and TV), Electronics Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Wireman, Tractor Mechanic, Armature and Coil Winder, Mechanic (Diesel), Heat Engine, Turner, Machinist, and Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Mechanic.

Part B is qualifying only. You need 35% and no community gets a relaxation, but the marks do not count towards the merit list.

Topic lists are reproduced from the syllabus annexure of the current CEN for each exam. The CENs describe their lists as illustrative rather than exhaustive.
