1. The 139th police station in Chennai city — S16 Perumbakkam — was inaugurated by the City Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal at the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board tenements at Perumbakkam.

2. The ninth edition of “Frame of Mind”, a film festival aimed at raising awareness on mental health related issues, organised by the Schizophrenia Research Foundation will be held in Chennai on December 18 and 19.

3. The Ministry of AYUSH and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced the formal recognition of Yogasana as a competitive sport at a joint press conference.

Scientists at the International Advanced Research Center for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI), an autonomous body of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad have developed a facile, scalable, and cost-effective electrochemical route to synthesize electrodes made of Nickel cobaltite (NiCo2O4) containing nanosheet structures with incorporated oxygen vacancies as an active material, for hybrid supercapacitors. These electrodes have been found to have excellent electrochemical performance.

5. The Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways and MSMEs Shri Nitin Gadkari has said that the Government has finalised GPS-based (Global Positioning System) technology toll collection to ensure seamless movement of vehicles across the country. He said this will ensure India becomes ‘toll booth free’ in the next two years.

6. The 35th edition of India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy is being conducted from 17 to 18 December 2020.

7. The 4th Bilateral Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting between the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) India and the National Narcotics Board (BNN), Indonesia was held on 17th  December, 2020.

8. A webinar and Expo between India and Maldives were held on December 17. The Theme of the webinar was ‘Joint Indo Maldives High Level Defence Engagement’.  It was organised under the aegis of Department of Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence (MoD) through Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina jointly inaugurated a railway link between Haldibari in India and Chilahati in Bangladesh during their PM level virtual bilateral summit. Presently, there are 4 operational rail links between India and Bangladesh. They are, Petrapole (India) – Benapole (Bangladesh),  Gede (India) – Darshana (Bangladesh), Singhabad (India)-Rohanpur (Bangladesh),  Radhikapur (India)–Birol (Bangladesh). This is the fifth such link between the two countries.
