Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav inaugurated a two-day International Workshop in New Delhi on 2 September 2026 on the theme “Tiger Landscapes: Conservation, Bioeconomy and Ecotourism as Pillars for Livelihood and Income Generation”. It is jointly organised by the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) under the MoEFCC, and runs 2–3 September 2026.

The kākāpō — a flightless, nocturnal parrot endemic to New Zealand and the world’s heaviest parrot — reached a recovery-era high of 325 birds on 1 September 2026, when 90 chicks from the 2026 breeding season were formally added to the tally after the youngest surviving chick reached 150 days. New Zealand’s Department of Conservation (DOC) announced the milestone; the population is thought to have last exceeded 300 about 75 years ago.

On 1 September 2026 the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution reduced the sugar stock holding limit for dealers and traders from 4,000 quintals to 2,000 quintals. The cap applies from 15 September to 30 November 2026 — the festive season — to prevent hoarding and speculative trading and to keep domestic supply adequate. Kolkata and its extended metropolitan area retain the 4,000-quintal limit.

On 1 September 2026 the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) signed an MoU with the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission at Paharganj, New Delhi, to run the nationwide initiative ‘Creating Intergenerational Bonding’. The school-based, play-based programme aims to strengthen emotional and cultural bonds among children, parents and grandparents, and will be piloted in 200 schools.

The Kakatiya-era Gollala Gudi Temple at Palampet in Mulugu district, Telangana, was declared a Monument of National Importance by the Ministry of Culture through gazette notification S.O. 4802(E) dated 31 August 2026, under Section 4(3) of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act, 1958. It is a Trikutalaya (three-shrine) temple near the UNESCO-listed Ramappa Temple, known for its carvings of hamsas and jali work.

Japan Credit Rating Agency upgrades India’s sovereign rating to ‘A-’

On 2 September 2026 the Japan Credit Rating Agency (JCR) upgraded India’s Foreign Currency and Local Currency Long-Term Issuer Ratings from ‘BBB+’ to ‘A-’ with a stable outlook, and raised India’s country ceiling by one notch to ‘A’. JCR cited India’s solid growth of around 7 per cent and an improved financial system.

The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi — an autonomous institute under the Ministry of Ayush — launched ‘AyurVarta’, a digital dialogue series, on 1 September 2026, ahead of the 11th Ayurveda Day on 23 September. The series carries authentic Ayurveda knowledge, scientific perspectives and contemporary relevance to audiences in India and abroad through AIIA’s digital platforms.
