On 6 August 2026 the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved GOBARdhan — India’s National Unified Scheme for Compressed Biogas (CBG) — with a total outlay of Rs 23,731 crore. The scheme runs from FY2026-27 to FY2035-36 and aims to raise domestic CBG output nearly ten-fold by converting cattle dung, agricultural residue and other organic waste into clean fuel and organic manure.

Telangana announced on 6 August 2026 that it will distribute 1.05 crore newly sanctioned laminated Public Distribution System (PDS) ration cards from 15 August 2026, Independence Day. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will launch the state-level programme at Sangareddy, with simultaneous distribution across all 119 Assembly constituencies.

Tamil Nadu Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister R. Vinoth presented the Agriculture Budget for 2026-27 in the Legislative Assembly on 6 August 2026, with a total outlay of Rs 58,374 crore. The headline announcement was the Tamil Nadu Soil Conservation Mission with an outlay of Rs 600 crore, aimed at improving soil fertility, cutting chemical fertiliser use and promoting natural and organic farming. The Budget also introduced carbon trading for farmers.

3. Tamil Nadu Launches ‘Vetri Vaanmagal’ Drone Training Scheme for Women Farmers
பெண் விவசாயிகளுக்கான ‘வெற்றி வான்மகள்’ ட்ரோன் பயிற்சித் திட்டத்தைத் தமிழ்நாடு தொடங்கியது
Announced in the Tamil Nadu Agriculture Budget 2026-27 on 6 August 2026, the ‘Vetri Vaanmagal’ scheme will train farmers in operating agricultural drones and help them obtain drone pilot licences. Training will be delivered through the Remote Pilot Training Organisation of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU). The scheme gains added significance because the United Nations has declared 2026 the International Year of the Woman Farmer.

இந்தியப் பெருங்கடலில் புதிய கடல் குதிரை இனம் ‘ஹிப்போகாம்பஸ் அமண்டாவின்செண்டே’ கண்டறியப்பட்டது; தூத்துக்குடி, தமிழ்நாட்டிலிருந்து மாதிரிகள்
Researchers, including scientists from the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies (KUFOS), described a new spiny seahorse species named Hippocampus amandavincentae in August 2026, resolving a taxonomic confusion around the thorny seahorse (Hippocampus histrix) that had persisted for about 150 years. Key specimens were collected from fish bycatch at Tuticorin Fisheries Harbour, Tamil Nadu, with additional surveys off Anchuthengu, Kerala. The findings were published in the journal Zootaxa.
