1. In Tamil Nadu government, the sanctioned strength of Under Secretaries is around 240 in 36 departments (in what is known as ‘one unit’, excluding the Finance and the Law Departments). Out of this, more than 150 posts are vacant.

2. Tamil Nadu received its first consignment of a COVID-19 vaccine on January 12. As many as 5,36,500 doses of Covishield arrived in Chennai from Pune. They are being dispatched to the districts ahead of a vaccination drive scheduled to be held at 307 places across the State on January 16.

3. The Supreme Court on January 12 suspended the implementation of three controversial farm laws and formed a four-member committee to examine the legislation.

4. A committee, set up to review the guidelines on television rating (TRP) agencies in India and headed by Prasar Bharati chief executive Shashi Shekhar Vempati, has submitted its recommendations to the information and broadcasting ministry.
