1. The Tamil Nadu Government has extended the Menstrual Hygiene Programme to urban areas which is being implemented in the rural areas for about nine years. It is the Central government programme implemented by former Chief Minister J Jayaliathaa in 2011 for adolescent girls in rural areas. Then it was extended to cover postnatal mothers in government hospitals, women prisoners and female inpatients of the Institute of Mental Health, Chennai. Now, it has extended to government school girls in urban areas and women inpatients at government medical institutions.

2. India celebrates Vijay Diwas on December 16 to mark the decisive victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the 1971 war. The day is also observed as ‘Bijoy Dibos’ of Bangladesh Liberation Day in Bangladesh.

3. On December 17, 2020, the Government of India released a hundred page e-booklet called “Putting Farmers First”. The booklet highlights the success stories of farmers who have benefited from contract farming.

5. The United Nations Development Programme recently released the Human Development Report. According to the report, India ranked 131 on the Human Development Index. India’s rank in 2018 was 130.
