1. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the ₹1,295.76 crore Mullaperiyar Drinking water project to bring drinking water through pipelines directly from Mullaperiyar dam to Madurai city. When completed by 2023, all 100 wards of the city corporation would have 24×7 water supply.

2. In a major announcement, the Chief Minister has said the government has accepted the recommendations of Hans Raj Verma commission and has proposed to send it to the Central government for necessary notification to include seven Scheduled Caste sub sects — Pallar, Kudumbar, Pannadi, Kaaladi, Kadayar, Devendrakulathar and Vadhiriyar — in the Devendrakula Vellalar community. The State government had formed a one man commission, headed by IAS officer Hans Raj Verma,in March 2019.

3. The Ambassador of France to India, Emmanuel Lenain,will make an official visit to Chennai between December 7 and 8. During his visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Industrial Guidance and Export Promotion Bureau of Tamil Nadu and the Indo French Chamber of Commerce and Industry was also scheduled. This MoU would establish a framework to facilitate connections between French businesses and Tamil Nadu, enabling investments and promoting ease of doing business.

4. The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of RBI has decided to keep interest rates unchanged. It has maintained the policy stance at “accommodative”, amid high inflation and some signs of economic recovery. The MPC made a unanimous decision to keep the repo rate steady at 4 percent.

7. China has successfully powered up the HL-2M Tokamak reactor, also known as ‘artificial Sun’. The reactor is China’s largest and most advanced nuclear fusion experimental research device. The device can potentially unlock a powerful clean energy source. The ‘artificial Sun’ uses a powerful magnetic field to fuse hot plasma that can attain a temperature of 150 million degrees Celsius. This is ten times hotter than the core of the Sun.
